You can install Windows 2000 in a virtual machine using the corresponding Windows2000 distribution CD.

Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:

Installation Steps

  1. Insert the Windows 2000 CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Power on the virtual machine to start installing Windows 2000.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  4. Install VMware Tools.

VMware Tools in a Windows 2000 Guest

  • After you install VMware Tools in a Windows 2000 guest, change the Windows 2000 screen resolution to more than 640x480 pixels. If you do not change it, Windows 2000 uses the standard VGA driver, and performance will suffer.
