Installation Instructions

The easiest method for installing Ubuntu 24.04 LTS in a virtual machine is to use the Ubuntu distribution CD.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:

Installation Steps

  1. Select the Ubuntu to install. Choose installation image for the Ubuntu Desktop or Live Server version.
  2. Insert the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS CD/DVD into the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Power on the virtual machine.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  5. Install either Open VM Tools or VMware Tools. In Ubuntu 24.04 LTS use Open VM Tools.

Use the guest OS provided by Open VM Tools or install the VMware Tools, as needed.

Open VM Tools

Open VM Tools is the open source implementation of VMware Tools and consists of a suite of virtualization utilities that improve the functionality, administration, and management of virtual machines on VMware hypervisors. Use the Open VM Tools redistributed by the operating system vendors.
