Installation Instructions
To install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 in a virtual machine you can use the standard RedHat distribution CD.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:
- Read General Installation Instructions for All VMware Products.
- When creating the virtual machine, use the VMware Paravirtual adapter for SCSI controller.
- During the guest OS configuration process, for virtual machines with hardware versions 19, 20, or 21, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 is not available in the Guest OS option list. Select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 (64-bit). On vSphere 7.0 Update 3, you can only select Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (64-bit).
Installation Steps
- Insert the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Power on the virtual machine to start installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
- To select a device for installation, in the INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen, under the SYSTEM session, select INSTALLATION DESTINATION.
- To change the Base Environment and select Add-Ons to install, in the INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen, under the SOFTWARE session, click SOFTWARE SELECTION.
- In the INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen, activate the root account and create new users, if necessary.
- Click Begin Installation to continue.
- Reboot the system when installation is completed.

Open VM Tools
Open VM Tools is the open-source implementation of VMware Tools. It consists of a suite of virtualization utilities that improves the functionality, administration, and management of virtual machines on VMware hypervisors. VMware recommends using the Open VM Tools redistributed by operating system vendors.
