Installation Instructions

To install Oracle Linux 10 in a virtual machine you can use the standard Oracle Linux 10 Linux distribution CD.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:

  • Read Read General Installation Instructions for All VMware Products..
  • When creating the virtual machine, VMware recommends using VMware Paravirtual adapter for SCSI controller.
  • During the Guest OS configuration process, for virtual machines with hardware version 20 or 21, Oracle Linux 10 is not available in Guest OS option list. Select Oracle Linux 9 (64-bit).

Installation Steps

  1. Insert the Oracle Linux 10 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Power on the virtual machine to start installing Oracle Linux 10.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  4. To select a device for installation, in the INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen, under the SYSTEM session, select INSTALLATION DESTINATION.
  5. To change the Base Environment and select Add-Ons to install, in the INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen, under the SOFTWARE session, click SOFTWARE SELECTION.
  6. In the INSTALLATION SUMMARY screen, activate the root account and create new users, if necessary.
  7. Click Begin Installation to continue.
  8. Reboot the system when installation is completed.

Open VM Tools

Open VM Tools is the open source implementation of VMware Tools and consist of a suite of virtualization utilities that improves the functionality, administration, and management of virtual machines on VMware hypervisors. VMware recommends using the Open VM Tools redistributed by the operating system vendors.
