IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 documentation covers information on how to install the operating system in a virtual machine. For additional information about the operating system, refer to the instructions included in the installation media.
IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 documentation includes the following topics:

Installation Instructions
The easiest method of installing IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 in a virtual machine is to use the IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 boot disk CD and the IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 CD.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:
- Read General Installation Instructions for All VMware Products.
- Configure OS swap with at least 120MB of space.
- Enable Boot from Removable Devices-Legacy Floppy Drives in the BIOS settings.
Consider these support and configuration issues for IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0:
- Additional disks should be less than or equal to 528MB.
- Additional disks must be of the same type already in use by the virtual machine. For example, if an IBM OS/2 Warp guest is installed on a BusLogic disk, any additional disk should also be BusLogic disk. The same is true for LSI Logic and IDE.
Installation Steps
- Insert the IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 boot disk in the CD-ROM drive.
- Power on the virtual machine to start installing IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0.
- Insert the second and third installer disks when requested.
- After installing the required drivers from the boot disk CD, insert the IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 install CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Press the F3 key to use the command line interface to partition
the hard drive.
Alternatively, press Enter to select the GUI mode. - Partition the hard disk drive using the FDISK utility.
- Create an appropriate start volume on which to install the guest, and save the FDSIK settings.
- Reinsert the IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 installer disk in the CD drive and reboot the guest.
- Reinsert the second and third installer disks during the initial startup.
- After the initial startup completes, insert the IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0
install CD in the CD drive.
The start volume appears on the screen. - Select an appropriate volume to install the guest.
- Format the file system with File Allocation Table (FAT) File System or High Performance File System (HPFS).
- Continue the installation by selecting components, utilities, and other resources.
- After completing the installation, reboot the guest.
Create Boot Disks
You can create boot disks from the 32-bit IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 install CD, using the CDINST utility in the IBM OS/2 Warp4.0 virtual machine.
Installation Steps
- Power on the system in which 32-bit IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 is installed.
- Insert the 32-bit IBM OS/2 Warp 4.0 install CD into the CD-ROM drive.
- Double-click the CDINST utility located in the root directory.
- Insert blank disks one at a time to create bootable disks.
