Installation Instructions

You can install Windows Millennium Edition in a virtual machine using the corresponding Windows ME distribution CD.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:

• Read General Installation Instructions for All VMware Products.
• Create and configure a new virtual machine.
• The recommended memory size for Windows ME is 64MB. If you use more than 512MB, you might encounter problems. Consult the Microsoft Web site for a workaround. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;253912.

Installation Steps

1. Insert the Windows ME CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Power on the virtual machine to start installing Windows ME.
3. Select to boot from CD-ROM.
4. Select Start Windows ME Setup from CD-ROM.
   The setup program runs FDISK and reboots.
5. Select to boot from CD-ROM again.
6. Select Start Windows ME Setup from CD-ROM.
   The setup program continues installing Windows ME.
7. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
8. Install VMware Tools.
