Installation Instructions
The easiest method of installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 in a virtual machine is to use the standard distribution CDs.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, verify that the following tasks are complete:- Read General Installation Instructions for All VMware Products.
- For support for OES 1 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, select SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 from the Guest Operating System version list.
- Only the LSI Logic virtual SCSI adapter is supported in a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 virtual machine with more than 4GB of memory on ESX Server 3.x and 4.x.
Installation Steps
- Insert the SLES 9 installation CD in the CD-ROM drive.
- Power on the virtual machine.
- In the first installation screen, use the arrow keys to select Installation, type the boot option textmode=1 and press Enter to select the text mode installer.
- At the Installation Settings screen, go to the Change menu and
select Booting.
The Boot Loader Setup screen appears. - Set the Boot Loader Type to GRUB.
- The installer displays a warning that indicates that you might lose some settings and prompts you to select a course of action. Select Convert current configuration and continue.
- Select Finish to return to the Installation Settings screen.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
- Install VMware Tools.
